Top 5 Reasons Why You Need a Social Media Manager

Reflect on your experience in the course, your development of PLN, your use of social media platforms and networked publics, any changes in your perspective of social media in professional settings and personal use.

The EDCI338 course has given me a new perspective on PLN. I use social platforms daily, but I’ve never considered using them as a PLN. Now I realize that setting up PLN on social media is an innovative way of learning and will bring many benefits to our study. When I took this course, I realized that many experts and learners set up a particular study discussion group for the field on the Internet. In the EDCI338 class, I learned how to create my own PLN, manage and participate in the PLN and interact on social media. PLN is diverse and inclusive. Nowadays, the Internet can make our learning styles more diverse, and we can also discuss problems with people from different countries in PLN. In the final assignment, our team also experienced disagreements, but everyone respected each other and tried to build a benign environment for our PLN. Of course, what impressed me most in the class was the risk of PLN. Although PLN can promote our study, we should also learn to protect our privacy and guard against fraud. This semester’s course is a valuable experience for me, and I will continue to develop my PLN field in future studies. I believe they can provide great help for my future development. Thanks to EDCI 338 and my three team members. Cheers!🍺

Open dialogues about media literacy and factual information can create conflict; why does this happen?

PLN is a tool that is very much in line with modern technological developments. We can meet like-minded people at PLN. At the end of the course, PLN can help with post-course professional development. Each of us can set up our PLN after the course in the blog and social media as a PLN for professional development. As long as we continue to use PLN, update content regularly, and keep in touch with people in the same field, we can improve ourselves further.

What is the benefit of having a PLN that values media literacy?

Professionally, I think there are plenty of opportunities. The first is that we can be professionals, publish regularly, and make money from traffic. In addition to the professional field, I have met many online bloggers for job interviews and learning. They teach people rich interview skills by sharing their experiences and what the interviewer wants to hear. I think joining the PLN field will be very helpful for our job hunting. Finally, in terms of work, we can also enter the PLN field of the same industry. When we encounter work problems, we can share our work experience and help each other solve the problems. Professionals of different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds will have different opinions.

Opinion: Media literacy is essential education - The Fulcrum

Media literacy is an expanded concept of literacy that includes the ability to access and analyze media information, as well as the ability to create, reflect on and take action to harness the power of information and communication to change the world. Media literacy is important because the current era of big data has created a phenomenon called an “information cocoon.” Almost all the videos or content we watch are what we are interested in because big data analyzes our interests and hobbies. As a result, we rarely receive something we don’t like. To avoid these information cocoons, we need to actively share more information with people and listen to their different points of view. We cannot simply assume that information intermediary, whether traditional news or social media, can solve our problems for us.

In PLN, different perspectives and people’s different experiences can lead to new ideas and ideas. If we had a richer, more diverse view in PLN, our audience would be much better. This means that we can have more opportunities to learn in different fields and angles, and we can also cooperate.
The public dialogue between media literacy and factual information can conflict. Because of the level of education received by each person, each person’s ideas will be different. In everyone’s life experience, they always feel that they are right, so there will be conflict. Therefore, some people only choose the news media that can meet their needs and refuse to listen to the news they disagree with.

The advantages of having a PLN that values media literacy are:
1. Verify the accuracy of the information and understand the views of others, exercise critical thinking
2. Encourage creating and sharing multimedia resources
3. Tells users how media affect our culture.
4. Encourage people to actively participate in public affairs

There are many benefits as well as threats to public figures or trusted people interacting with public audiences in the media spce. First of all, public figures have a certain influence on society. Everything they say and do is judged. Their positive actions will have a good influence on the public, and there will be a good social atmosphere on social platforms. Viewers will also be more interested and attentive to podcasts because of this positive message. This will bring more followers and attention to their social accounts, which is a good result. But at the same time, if some bad information comes out of the media space of public figures, they may be subject to serious cyber violence and threats. In China, young celebrities who smoke in public are instantly trending on social media. In other words, what they say and do has an impact on the public. Their wrong words and deeds will cause the wrong idea to the young people and may lead some people to imitate their actions, so public figures need to present a good image in front of the public all the time.

Verified people should be cautious when using social media. Because it means their privacy is out there. Their current location, their occupation, and even their appearance will be known to the public. This involves a lot of personal information, there are huge hidden dangers. Public figures may be stalked in public places, and some press teams even violate privacy and take candid photos to get juicy news. It is not a good thing to be photographed awkwardly or unfavorably without knowing it.

Being popular with the public and having a PLN is a good thing for many people. As well as increasing our popularity, we will welcome more fans, which will give us a sense of accomplishment and make money. Also, our opinions are recognized by the public, and we can get feedback and participate in more professional seminars. This will make better progress in academic research. But the direct correlation between social media and employment may not be a good thing. Because sharing the same account to live and work may cause a lot of unnecessary trouble. I think the best solution is to separate personal accounts from professional accounts. I’ve seen many members of the public do this, and they have two or more accounts on one social platform. But fans will find out about any account, so be careful what you say and do on social media.

Blog Post #7 – Community engagement is public communications

What are the benefits of a diverse and inclusive PLN in social media sharing that understands where you are coming from with messaging that impacts the community?

In social media sharing, diversity means finding people who have different perspectives and come from other places and backgrounds. Various forms of communication have made it easier than ever for people from different backgrounds to connect. It transcends traditional differences like gender, race, or ethnicity. Diversity and inclusion initiatives support the recognition that everyone is different. Social media reinforces this fact, showing that we are more connected and have more in the joint when we use other platforms to communicate. We can find common ground, share experiences, and solve problems in new ways. Online participation offers many opportunities for participants to communicate in different places at different times.

PLN creates an online interactive learning space with specific topics for people in the same field to share information. Social media has become the number one means of communication. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all have their ways of spreading the word. For example, Facebook has public homepages on specific topics; Twitter has hashtags, and we can search for topics we are interested in and see the most popular news. These topic tags allow people from different backgrounds to find each other and communicate differently. The most popular on Instagram is the story, whose short videos enable people to browse through their favorite things quickly. Compared to TikTok, Instagram is more of an Internet celebrity. These are the best tools for delivering information promptly.

Hi Qiaoyang,

Thanks for sharing! I couldn’t agree more. First, asking questions and listening are the most important ways of communication between people. We can get ideas from others and improve ourselves. I prefer to share my thoughts on social media rather than face-to-face because I have plenty of time to think, and I won’t be interrupted. In addition, some tools are very convenient to help us. Twitter, as your example, is a great tool. However, compared with Twitter, I prefer to use Facebook group, which enables me to find like-minded people more quickly. Twitter also has advantages. I think it spreads timely information more quickly. Great blog!
